Jets Discuss Potential Move for 6-Foot-5 Prospect With Hall of Fame Ties

The New York Jets are thoroughly evaluating the tight end class ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, with LSU’s Mason Taylor being a key target. The team has met with Taylor multiple times during the pre-draft process, signaling strong interest in the promising prospect.

Taylor, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and former Jet Jason Taylor, has been described by NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein as an “ascending tight end with plus catch talent and Hall of Fame bloodlines.” At the NFL Combine, he measured in at 6-foot-5 and 251 pounds, showcasing an ideal frame for the position.

Jets May Need to Be Aggressive to Land Taylor
Ranked No. 41 on ESPN’s Jordan Reid’s big board, Taylor carries a mid-second-round grade. Reid believes he could be taken within the first 50 picks, making the Jets’ No. 42 selection a realistic landing spot. He also noted that New York would be a logical fit for Taylor in the second round.

Taylor’s stock received a further boost after an impressive showing at LSU’s Pro Day on March 26. Reid described his performance as one of the most impressive he has seen in this draft cycle.

Taylor’s Skillset Shows Long-Term Potential
During his three seasons at LSU, Taylor appeared in 38 games, recording 129 receptions for 1,308 yards and six touchdowns. His smooth athleticism, strong hands, and ability to read defenders make him a valuable receiving threat, though he still needs development as a blocker.

At his Pro Day, Taylor posted a 4.65-second 40-yard dash and completed 28 bench press reps at 225 pounds—both marks would have ranked second among tight ends at the 2025 NFL Combine.

Draft Strategy: Tight End vs. Defensive Tackle
The Jets face a crucial decision in the draft. They could target Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham or Penn State tight end Tyler Warren with the No. 7 overall pick. If they take Graham, Taylor becomes a strong second-round option. If they opt for Warren, they may need to look elsewhere for defensive line help.

Ultimately, the Jets’ coaching staff must determine which draft combination strengthens the team the most heading into the 2025 season.
