Lindenmeyer earns tight end leadership role following impressive 2024 close
Nebraska’s tight end group has undergone major changes since the start of the 2024 season. With Thomas Fidone and Nate Boerkircher gone, new faces like former quarterback Heinrich Haarberg, LSU transfer Mac Markway, and converted wide receiver Carter Nelson have stepped in.
Leading the group now is junior Luke Lindenmeyer, a former walk-on who has emerged as the veteran presence. After earning more playing time late last season, he now embraces his leadership role despite initial doubts.
“I was stressed because I’d never been in this position,” Lindenmeyer admitted. “At first, I thought I wasn’t ready, but after a couple of weeks, I told myself, ‘I can do this.’”
His growth was fueled by the arrival of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. Lindenmeyer’s playing time increased significantly under Holgorsen, catching four of his five passes and playing over 40% of his total snaps in the final four games.
That late-season surge built his confidence heading into the offseason. “It was huge to prove to myself and the coaches that I could do it,” he said. “Now, I can focus on improving instead of proving something.”
Lindenmeyer also excelled in Nebraska’s offseason competitions, winning team events. He dedicated time to refining his tight-end skills, focusing on route running, technique, and body conditioning rather than weight changes.
His hard work is paying off. “I’ve been improving every year, and it’s finally showing,” he said.
