A few weeks back, reports surfaced that the Eagles were open to trading tight end Dallas Goedert. One report even suggested that the only way he stays in Philadelphia beyond 2024 is if he agrees to a pay cut.
That sentiment has now been echoed by ESPN’s Tim McManus, who says it’s hard to see the Eagles keeping Goedert at his current price. While his base salary for 2025 is just $1.25 million, a hefty option bonus of nearly $14 million is pushing the team to explore trade options.
The Eagles already have major financial commitments to Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley. As McManus notes, they may no longer see Goedert as a long-term piece. Trading him now would allow the team to recoup value rather than letting him walk in free agency next year.
Injuries have also played a role in this decision. Goedert has missed 15 games over the past five seasons. Despite that, he remains a reliable blocker and pass-catcher, and the Eagles don’t have a clear replacement. Free agency has already been picked clean, and landing a top rookie tight end would likely require a big trade-up from pick No. 32.
The team isn’t asking for much in return—reportedly just a fourth-round pick, even if it’s in 2026 or 2027. Cap-wise, the Eagles would only see savings from a post-June 1 move, and even then, it’s just around $4 million.
Still, it feels like Goedert’s time in Philly may be up. When asked about his status, head coach Nick Sirianni said, “Right now, he’s on our football team.” That answer says a lot. Unless a contract restructure happens, Goedert may have already played his final down as an Eagle.
