Areola ‘done’ at West Ham as ExWHUEmployee reveals major transfer update

Alphonse Areola has been a consistent starter for West Ham this season, but his tenure may be ending this summer.

With West Ham having little left to play for this season, the club has already shifted focus to the upcoming summer transfer window. It’s been a disappointing campaign, and despite the appointment of Graham Potter, there have been few signs of progress.

To turn things around next season, the club will need flawless recruitment, and recent transfer news suggests that French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola could be replaced. Areola has performed well this season, but West Ham appears ready for a squad overhaul, with Burnley’s James Trafford being eyed as a potential summer target.

Trafford has been outstanding for Burnley this season, with 39 appearances, 27 clean sheets, and 74 saves. His impressive performances have earned him a call-up to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel. Given his age, talent, and rising reputation, Trafford is unlikely to join West Ham as a backup keeper. The Clarets will likely demand a hefty fee, and West Ham would only meet it if Trafford is set to be their starting goalkeeper.

Areola currently earns around £120,000 per week, and if West Ham can offload him, it would free up wages for other areas of need.

For next season, Graham Potter must be supported with quality signings to improve the starting XI and align with his desired style of play. While adding Trafford could be a step in the right direction, there’s still significant work to be done to build a squad capable of meeting the club’s ambitions.
