Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder jokingly claimed Ryan One is tied to the club for “20 years” after reports from Fabrizio Romano linked the young striker with a move to Ipswich Town.
Ipswich Town have shown interest in Sheffield United’s rising talent Ryan One, according to Fabrizio Romano, who reported on 10 April that the club is keeping tabs on the 18-year-old. One is said to be among Ipswich’s possible replacements for Liam Delap this summer.
The young Scottish international has been breaking into Chris Wilder’s first-team squad this season after joining the Blades from Hamilton Academical in September 2023. His progress has caught attention across the league.
Addressing the Ipswich rumours, Wilder responded with humour before Sheffield United’s clash with Plymouth Argyle. He told The Star, “Ryan One’s under contract for the next 20 years here, so don’t worry about that. Ryan’s got a huge future in front of him and his future is in a red and white shirt.”
Though his “20 years” comment was clearly tongue-in-cheek, One is under contract until 2029. Wilder emphasized the club’s intent to secure their best players, adding that he has already spoken with ownership about locking in long-term deals to avoid losing top talent.
However, as One’s reputation grows, so does the attention. Reports suggest Liverpool have been monitoring his development and could soon make a move. With the Reds’ interest described as “red hot,” Sheffield United may need to fast-track One’s involvement in the first team to convince him to stay.
As it stands, the Blades are well aware of the balancing act: nurturing young stars while fending off advances from bigger clubs.
