Fulham manager Marco Silva was left frustrated after Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi avoided a red card during their 1-0 loss at the Vitality Stadium. Antoine Semenyo scored early for the hosts, and it proved to be the game’s only goal, denting Fulham’s hopes of European qualification.
Just before halftime, Senesi caught Joachim Andersen with a studs-up challenge, but referee Michael Oliver only issued a yellow card. A quick VAR review upheld the decision, sparking Silva’s fury.
“For me, it’s a clear red card,” Silva told the BBC. “VAR should have asked the referee to take another look. We’ve had some really unlucky calls in recent weeks, and it’s tough to accept.”
Silva also criticized the fourth official, saying he seemed confused throughout the match. The result saw Fulham drop to ninth, with Bournemouth climbing above them in the table.
Despite the early setback, Silva believed his team deserved more. “We didn’t start well, and that cost us. But we reacted well, created chances, and controlled the second half.”
Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash with Chelsea, Silva emphasized the need for sharper play in the final third. “This was a chance to take a big step forward. We didn’t take it, but there are still six games to go.”
