Southampton’s Shea Charles shortlisted for Championship Young Player of the Season award

Southampton midfielder Shea Charles has been named a nominee for the Championship’s Young Player of the Season award.

Shea Charles, 21, has had an impressive season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and is expected to return to Southampton ready for a starting role next season.

The Northern Ireland international has made 39 appearances for the Owls, scoring once and assisting five times under manager Danny Rohl. His performances have drawn consistent praise, particularly from experienced teammate Barry Bannan, who has been vocal about Charles’ potential.

Last season, Charles featured 33 times in the Championship for Southampton, although he started just 15 matches. He joined the Saints from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 on a deal that runs through to 2027.

Charles is nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Season award, alongside Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham and Burnley’s CJ Egan-Riley. The winner will be announced during the Football League’s annual ceremony in London on Sunday, April 27.
