Sheffield Wednesday are set to retain two promising young talents, Jarvis Thornton and Reece Johnson, for the upcoming 2025/26 season after the club opted to extend their contracts. Thornton, a midfielder who has captained the club’s U21 side this season, and Johnson, a consistent performer at full-back, have both become key figures under Andy Holdsworth over the past year. Their extensions reflect the club’s intent to build around a solid core as they prepare for what is expected to be a season of transition for the U21 squad.
The next campaign will see significant changes within the U21 setup. Several familiar names, including Joey Phuthi, Sam Reed, Jay Buchan, Cian Flannery, and Jack Hall, are expected to depart once their contracts come to an end. In light of the changes, the Owls have already begun assessing new talent, inviting trialists to train with the squad as they explore their options.
