Michigan coach provides fall update on 2025 Georgia Bulldogs transfer.

The Michigan Wolverines made strong additions through the transfer portal this offseason, particularly on defense. Among the standout pickups were defensive tackles Damon Payne from Alabama, Tre Williams from Clemson, and linebacker Troy Bowles from Georgia.

Bowles, a highly-touted transfer from Kirby Smart’s program, brings speed and versatility to Michigan’s second line of defense. Under defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, Bowles is expected to offer flexibility in various defensive schemes.

Recently, Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary provided an update on Bowles’ status for the 2025 season. Though Bowles has yet to practice due to a minor “clean-up” surgery, Jean-Mary confirmed he will play this year.

“He’s been here, he’s been great in meetings, and active in the weight room doing conditioning. He just hasn’t done 11-on-11 yet,” Jean-Mary explained.

The coach also expressed excitement about Bowles’ potential impact alongside other young talents like Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and Chase Taylor, emphasizing the importance of getting Bowles healthy and on the field.
