Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed his strong desire to keep Axel Tuanzebe at the club beyond this season.
Tuanzebe, whose contract expires in the summer, hasn’t yet agreed new terms. While the DR Congo international said he’s comfortable waiting until the end of the season to make a decision, McKenna made it clear that the club values him highly.
“Definitely, and Axel knows that,” McKenna said. “He’s been really important for us across the past two seasons. He’s rebuilt his form and fitness and found a good home here. We’d be very pleased if we can keep him.”
McKenna added that both the club and player will see what the next few weeks bring, but he believes Portman Road remains a great fit for Tuanzebe.
As for the rest of the squad, McKenna admitted that some players are likely to move on this summer, whether due to loan expirations or other reasons. Still, he insists that contract situations won’t influence his team selections during the final stretch of the season.
“With six games left, we want to finish strong,” he said. “Selections will be made based on who gives us the best chance to perform well and earn points—nothing else.”
