After the 2024 season, quarterback Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami, stepping in for NFL-bound Cam Ward. Shortly after, he signed a massive NIL deal reportedly worth $4.3 million — one of the largest in college football.
During an appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin reacted to Beck’s deal with a jab:
“Miami gave him $4.3 million? Did they watch his game against us?”
Kiffin was referencing Ole Miss’ 28-10 win over Georgia, where Beck threw for just 186 yards with one interception. Despite a solid season overall — 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions — the loss stood out.
Kiffin later clarified that his issue isn’t with players cashing in, but with the current NIL system, calling it a “free market with no cap.”
Beck opted to return to college to rebuild his NFL Draft stock for 2026, and the massive NIL deal made the decision even easier.
