Leicester City are gearing up for another stint in the Championship.
Their relegation was sealed after a loss to Liverpool, marking their second drop from the Premier League in just three years. Fans have been left frustrated after a dismal season, with neither Steve Cooper nor Ruud van Nistelrooy able to steer the team to safety.
The club may now turn to Lee Carsley as Van Nistelrooy’s potential replacement, with the former England U21 boss reportedly admired by Leicester’s board.
But it’s not just Van Nistelrooy who could be leaving. Star midfielder Bilal El Khannouss might also be on his way out. Despite a tough season, the Moroccan has impressed and drawn interest from top European clubs.
A little-known release clause in his contract could make a summer move likely, offering clubs a chance to sign him at a cut price. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri confirmed that El Khannouss is open to a move, and the clause was included to simplify a future exit.
Fortunately for Leicester, they already have a potential replacement lined up. Will Alves, currently on loan at Cardiff City, has emerged as one of the club’s brightest prospects.
His development and experience in a struggling side could prove invaluable next season. Promoting Alves would not only save Leicester money amid financial strain but also provide a confident, battle-tested option for the midfield.
