Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has emerged as a figure of significant interest for Leicester City, according to a report from Sky Sports. As the 2024/25 season draws to a close, uncertainty looms over Röhl’s future at Hillsborough. Speculation is mounting over whether he will continue leading the Owls into the next campaign, especially with interest coming in from several clubs.
Among the suitors is Southampton, a club with a strong link to Röhl’s past. They are reportedly eyeing a reunion with the manager following their relegation from the Premier League and subsequent departure of Ivan Juric. However, Southampton isn’t alone in their pursuit. Leicester City, who also face a return to the Championship, are said to be weighing up Röhl as a potential successor to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett reports that van Nistelrooy is expected to remain at the helm for Leicester’s remaining Premier League fixtures, with only “informal” discussions currently taking place about his long-term future. However, both the club and the Dutchman are believed to be leaning towards parting ways at the end of the season, as their ambitions no longer seem aligned.
In preparation for a managerial change, Leicester have begun compiling a shortlist of potential replacements. Röhl’s name is reportedly among the top candidates, alongside Lee Carsley and Russell Martin. Dorsett emphasized that while there has been no final decision regarding van Nistelrooy’s departure, interest in Röhl is described as “definite.” With some candidates currently under contract and others potentially available at lower costs, Leicester appears to be actively planning their next move.
