Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Leicester City is uncertain following the club’s relegation, with one potential next job being suggested.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Leicester City is uncertain after the club’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed following a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool. The Dutch manager, who was appointed in November to help keep the Foxes in the Premier League, has overseen just eight points from 20 matches.
Van Nistelrooy has admitted that he’s awaiting confirmation on his future and is scheduled to meet with the club’s owners and board soon. While Sky Sports News reports that he will remain in charge until the season ends, Leicester has already drawn up a shortlist of three potential replacements: Lee Carsley, Danny Rohl, and Russell Martin.
If Van Nistelrooy is dismissed, his reputation could be at risk. Former goalkeeper Ben Foster believes a return to the Netherlands might be necessary for Van Nistelrooy to rebuild his career. Foster suggested that Van Nistelrooy’s stock could rise again by achieving success in his homeland after his previous tenure at PSV.
Foster also expressed confidence that Van Nistelrooy could have done a better job than current Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, citing Van Nistelrooy’s prior respect within the footballing world. However, Foster questioned the long-term suitability of both Van Nistelrooy and Amorim for their respective roles.
Meanwhile, Van Nistelrooy’s current contract at Leicester runs until 2027, and there are reports suggesting he may resist leaving without compensation. If the club sacks him before June, they could face financial challenges due to profit and sustainability regulations.
