Everton suffered back-to-back defeats after losing to Chelsea on Saturday, with Nicolas Jackson scoring the only goal. David Moyes’ side couldn’t find an equaliser, and Jordan Pickford faced criticism for his role in the goal.
Despite Everton being safe from relegation and planning for the summer, Idrissa Gana Gueye frustrated some fans after the match. Gueye, who’s been solid all season, was spotted laughing with Jackson — his Senegal teammate — while heading for the tunnel at halftime, even as Everton were trailing.
While harmless on the surface, fans felt it reflected poorly on the team’s attitude, echoing Roy Keane’s old criticism of players being too friendly with opponents during battles. Although Everton still want to offer Gueye a new deal, this moment wasn’t well-received given the team’s situation.
