Leeds United are actively seeking a new goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window, with Norwich City’s Angus Gunn featuring among their potential targets. This is according to Mick Brown, a former chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn, who remains well-connected within the football world. Brown revealed to Football Insider that manager Daniel Farke, having previously worked with Gunn at Norwich, holds the 29-year-old in high regard. However, Leeds are prioritizing other options first, as they look for a goalkeeper capable of helping the club establish itself in the Premier League.
Football Insider had earlier reported that Leeds are preparing to move for Gunn if he becomes available on a free transfer this summer. Although Norwich are set to offer Gunn a contract extension, uncertainty remains over his future as the Canaries continue their search for a new manager.
Meanwhile, Brown also shared back in January that Leeds have been working for some time on signing a replacement for Illan Meslier, with a number of deals being lined up ahead of the summer window. Among their top targets is Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale, who Leeds have identified as a preferred choice following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League. Brown, who spent over a decade recruiting for Manchester United during their most successful period, emphasized that Leeds are making bold and ambitious plans for the transfer market.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said that while Angus Gunn remains a candidate, he might not fully meet the high standards Leeds are aiming for this summer. Farke’s familiarity with Gunn is a positive, but the club are targeting players with proven Premier League quality to maximize their chances of survival next season. Brown admitted he isn’t fully convinced Gunn fits that profile, suggesting Leeds are aiming higher and could only revisit Gunn if their primary targets fall through.
In addition to strengthening their goalkeeping options, Leeds are working to reinforce their midfield. Brown revealed on 22 April that Kalvin Phillips is edging closer to a return to Elland Road. The Manchester City midfielder, who came through Leeds’ academy, reportedly feels a strong connection to the club and would enjoy the full backing of the fans. However, Football Insider previously reported that bringing Phillips back won’t be straightforward, with City’s high asking price and Phillips’ hefty wages posing significant hurdles.
