Barry Ferguson has shared what he communicated to his players about their future at Rangers following the team’s 2-2 draw with St Mirren on Saturday. Despite taking the lead twice in the match, first through Cyriel Dessers and then through Nicolas Raskin, Rangers couldn’t secure a win as Mark O’Hara and Conor McMenamin both scored equalizers for the hosts. The result marked a disappointing end to Rangers’ hopes of claiming the Scottish Premiership title, with significant changes expected at the club in the coming months.
In addition to the team’s on-field struggles, there have been developments off the pitch, with 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh holding productive talks about acquiring a majority stake in Rangers. Kevin Thelwell has also recently been appointed as the club’s new sporting director.
Following the match at the SMISA Stadium, Ferguson addressed his players, stressing the importance of their individual futures. “I’ve said to them, even if you’re under contract, everybody’s playing for their future,” he explained. He emphasized that substantial changes were necessary and were already underway, citing the ongoing takeover talks and the arrival of Kevin as sporting director. Ferguson highlighted that with the season winding down, there would be little time off before pre-season begins, followed quickly by European qualifiers. With so much at stake, he acknowledged the substantial work that still lies ahead for the club.
