Marco Silva fires back at Aston Villa: “It happens every single time.”

Fulham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon — a blow to their fading European hopes.

Marco Silva didn’t hold back after Fulham’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, slamming the hosts for what he saw as persistent time-wasting tactics at Villa Park.

A first-half strike from Youri Tielemans proved decisive, giving Villa a crucial three points in the Champions League chase—pulling level with Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, though both rivals still hold a game in hand. It was also a timely response to Villa’s recent exits from both the Champions League and FA Cup.

Fulham, however, had their own European dreams riding on the result. Despite managing 11 shots to Villa’s 10, they couldn’t break through Emi Martinez’s wall. The frustration boiled over for Silva, who felt Villa’s game management disrupted the momentum just as his team began to surge.

“We showed great spirit, commitment, and in the second half, moments of real quality,” Silva told the BBC. “But we conceded from a set-piece—something we need to be more focused and aggressive on. It cost us.”

Silva noted a tactical shift in the second half that allowed Fulham to take more risks and push Villa deeper into their half. Harry Wilson had two clear chances to equalize, including a one-on-one with Martinez and another from close range—but both were missed.

Even after being reduced to ten men due to injury, Fulham kept the pressure on. Yet, Silva was clearly irked by what he called constant time-wasting from Villa, emphasizing, “I saw them wasting time every single time, and that showed how difficult it was for them.”

Still, Silva remains defiant, urging his players to regroup quickly: “We didn’t get the points, but we have three more finals. We rest, we analyze, and we go again.”

Villa now shift their focus to a vital run-in against Bournemouth, Tottenham, and Manchester United as they fight for a top-four finish.
