The 2024–25 season was supposed to be a historic celebration for the New York Giants—their 100th in franchise history. Instead, it turned into a nightmare. The team crashed to a 3–14 finish, including a franchise-record 10-game losing streak, making it arguably the worst season in their storied history.
By the end of the year, the Giants were understandably ranked near the bottom of every major NFL power list. Yet, after a busy and productive offseason, many analysts praised the franchise’s efforts to revamp the roster.
Still, ESPN remains unimpressed.
ESPN Doubts Giants’ Turnaround
In ESPN’s latest post-draft power rankings—voted on by over 80 NFL Nation reporters—the Giants were ranked dead last, despite their notable roster upgrades. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan didn’t mince words: “No reason to beat around the bush,” he wrote.
The Giants overhauled the quarterback room, bringing in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, while drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round. The plan is for Wilson and Winston to carry the load while Dart develops, with Tommy DeVito as insurance. Though ESPN acknowledged this as an upgrade, it clearly wasn’t enough to boost their confidence in New York’s potential.
A Better Team on Paper
Still, there’s reason for optimism. The Giants have significantly improved across multiple positions:
Defensive Line: The addition of top pick Abdul Carter and third-rounder Darius Alexander joins a unit already featuring stars Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Secondary: The team addressed key needs by signing cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland.
Offensive Line: Rookie Marcus Mbow adds depth, although the line may still need refinement.
Backfield: Fourth-round selection Cam Skattebo adds versatility to the Giants’ offense.
With Russell Wilson leading the offense, fans are hopeful. This team has far more potential than last year’s squad. While they may not be Super Bowl contenders yet, it’s difficult to justify ranking them at the absolute bottom of the league.
The Giants may not be flashy, but they’re certainly not the worst.
