Leeds United are reportedly showing strong interest in signing a 24-year-old goalkeeper this summer, with the player seen as an alternative to more high-profile targets such as Sam Johnstone and Caoimhin Kelleher. Following their recent return to the Premier League, the club is wasting no time in preparing for top-flight competition, and strengthening the squad has become an immediate priority.
A key area of focus for manager Daniel Farke is the goalkeeper position. Illan Meslier’s inconsistency continues to be a concern, while veteran shot-stopper Karl Darlow, at 34, is not viewed as a long-term solution. Leeds are actively exploring their options, and a new keeper is high on their summer wishlist as they look to build a squad capable of surviving—and thriving—in the Premier League.
Sam Johnstone of Wolves has been named as a possible recruit. With limited game time behind Jose Sa, the Englishman is expected to seek a first-choice role elsewhere as he enters the prime years of his career. Similarly, Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a move. Despite playing a part in the Reds’ title-winning campaign, Kelleher remains firmly behind Alisson and may be tempted by the opportunity to become a regular starter.
Meanwhile, Leeds are also reportedly considering a move for San Lorenzo goalkeeper Orlando Gill. According to journalist Uriel Lugt on X, the Whites are among several clubs expected to make an offer for the Paraguayan. Although San Lorenzo are in no rush to sell, a tempting bid could sway them. Gill is under contract until December 2027, but Leeds appear keen to test the waters this summer.
While Gill might not have the same name recognition as Johnstone or Kelleher, he has impressed in Argentina, recording nine clean sheets in 18 senior appearances. Standing at 6ft 5in, he brings a commanding presence, but there are questions about how quickly he could adapt to the demands of English football.
Johnstone and Kelleher are arguably safer bets, given their Premier League experience and international credentials. For Farke, it’s essential to bring in a goalkeeper who can perform from day one, and those two present less of a risk in terms of transition. Still, if Leeds’ recruitment team believes Gill is the right fit, their judgment should be trusted—especially with Paraag Marathe reportedly ready to back the manager with up to £150 million for summer signings. That said, Gill may be brought in more as a long-term project or backup option, rather than an immediate first-choice solution.
