Viktor Johansson gives honest update on Stoke City future amid Premier League interest.

Stoke City’s Viktor Johansson stood out as one of the Championship’s top goalkeepers this season, even as the team finished 18th.

Stoke City finished their Championship campaign narrowly avoiding relegation, securing survival with a 0-0 draw against Derby County on the final day. Despite a tense season, the Potters managed to hold on to their second-tier status.

The summer transfer window is momentarily paused due to the Club World Cup, but speculation continues around player movement. One name in the spotlight is inventive midfielder Million Manhoef, who has hinted at a possible departure. Head coach Mark Robins will be keen to keep hold of him.

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton had predicted Stoke’s relegation, and it might have become reality if not for the stellar performances of goalkeeper Viktor Johansson. Robins is also eager to retain the Swedish shot-stopper, who recently opened up about his future.

Johansson speaks on Stoke future

Johansson stood out as one of the Championship’s top goalkeepers last season, recording 14 clean sheets in 46 appearances. His saves were pivotal in keeping Stoke above the drop zone, and interest from clubs like Bournemouth and Como has grown as a result.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen, Johansson said:

“I’m at Stoke and I haven’t heard anything else. If something comes up, I’ll decide then. I’m very happy and not stressed. Of course, I dream about the Premier League, but everything has its time.”

He has also been linked as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale at Southampton, showing clear signs he’s ready for a step up.

Proven Premier League potential

In his debut season with Stoke after joining from Rotherham, Johansson made 152 saves, prevented 11 goals, and saved 25% of penalties faced. His influence was vital, both through his shot-stopping and his leadership at the back.
