Ipswich Town enter a crucial 2025/26 Championship season following their tough relegation from the Premier League.
The leap to the Premier League last season highlighted gaps in Ipswich Town’s squad that must be addressed if they are to push for promotion in the 2025/26 Championship campaign. With a return to the top flight the goal, this summer’s transfer window will be pivotal. Manager Kieran McKenna must not only replace outgoing talent but also bring in players who can thrive in the demanding, physical environment of the Championship.
Ipswich supporters will be eager to see who arrives at Portman Road to reignite the Premier League dream. A dream transfer window would include strengthening key positions, adding creativity, and bringing in proven experience.
Return of Jens Cajuste
Midfielder Jens Cajuste was on loan from Napoli last season and proved a key asset. His energy, physicality, and familiarity with McKenna’s system make him an ideal target for a permanent return. However, that would depend on Napoli’s valuation and Ipswich’s budget, as the Italian club is reportedly offering him to other clubs to facilitate their own deals.
Striker Reinforcement – Josh Sargent
With Liam Delap now at Chelsea, Ipswich need a proven goalscorer. Josh Sargent, despite playing for rivals Norwich, has shown consistent Championship form. His ability to lead the line and contribute in build-up play suits McKenna’s tactics. Acquiring a striker of his calibre would likely require a significant financial commitment.
Premier League Loan – Tayo Adaramola
Young Crystal Palace defender Tayo Adaramola is a versatile option who could cover both left-back and left centre-back roles. After loan spells in League One and Two last season, a Championship move would be a logical next step. His flexibility fits Ipswich’s needs, especially given McKenna’s tactical fluidity.
Midfield Depth – Tyler Morton
Liverpool’s Tyler Morton, who impressed on loan at Blackburn, could be another valuable addition. His vision, passing, and composure would suit Ipswich’s midfield, and a loan move would align with both his development and Ipswich’s strategy of nurturing top young talents.
Creative Threat – Morgan Rogers
After Omari Hutchinson’s strong loan spell, Ipswich may look to Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. His pace, dribbling, and ability to operate across the front line make him a good fit. With playing time at Villa potentially limited, a loan could benefit all parties—if Villa sees the Championship as a suitable development platform.
Departures to Manage
Several key players from last season won’t return. Kalvin Phillips has gone back to Manchester City after his loan ended, and a permanent deal seems unlikely.
Midfielder Massimo Luongo and winger Marcus Harness are also leaving, following the club’s retained list announcement. Defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Cameron Burgess will depart when their contracts expire on June 30, having not agreed new deals.
These exits mean McKenna faces a significant rebuild, but with the right signings, Ipswich can position themselves for a strong push back to the Premier League.
