Brighton defender Igor Julio is attracting strong interest from Real Sociedad, who are keen to strengthen their defence this summer. The La Liga side has reportedly made significant progress in talks, with the 27-year-old Brazilian open to the move.
Real Sociedad are looking for a replacement for West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd, who is returning to his parent club after a loan spell. Spanish outlet AS reports that Igor and Sociedad have “reached an understanding,” with “almost everything agreed,” while negotiations between the clubs are ongoing. Brighton are said to be open to a deal.
Since joining Brighton from Fiorentina for £15 million in 2023, Igor has struggled to secure a regular place in the team. He made 49 total appearances but featured in just 13 Premier League games last season, partly due to a hamstring injury and competition from Lewis Dunk, Adam Webster, Jan Paul Van Hecke, and Joel Veltman.
Despite expressing happiness at Brighton, Igor hinted in a recent interview that he doesn’t expect to see out his contract, which runs until June 2027. He admitted that while he’s content, he’s also seeking fresh challenges and named Liverpool as his dream club. He even encouraged teammate Joao Pedro to join the Reds if an opportunity arises.
Reports also suggest that Igor is intrigued by Real Sociedad’s project and sees it as a chance to secure regular playing time and stability. Sociedad sporting director Erik Bretos views him as a valuable and versatile addition.
Brighton have already strengthened their backline with the £10m signing of Italy international Diego Coppola from Hellas Verona, and PSV’s Olivier Boscagli is expected to arrive on a free transfer soon.
The deal appears to benefit all sides, but final agreement between Brighton and Real Sociedad remains pending. Igor’s valuation is believed to be around £15 million.
