Club president criticizes Southampton over ‘constant demands’ in £18m star deal.

Southampton have kicked off their summer rebuild under Will Still as they target automatic promotion next season.

Southampton have begun the summer transfer window with a mix of arrivals and departures. The club has signed Joshua Quarshie from Hoffenheim, while several players have exited St Mary’s. Samuel Amo-Ameyaw joined Ligue 1 side Strasbourg for around £6 million, and Kyle Walker-Peters, Adam Lallana, and Joe Lumley have also departed.

The outgoings may continue, with EFL Analysis reporting that Atalanta have bid for Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Leeds United are interested in Shea Charles. While some fans may be disappointed to see Charles possibly return to the Premier League, many are eager to see striker Paul Onuachu leave.

Onuachu, who joined Southampton in January 2023 for £18 million, has struggled with just four goals in 36 Premier League appearances. A move to Trabzonspor, where he scored 17 goals last season, seemed imminent. However, Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has criticized Southampton for their “constant demands,” claiming the club is holding out for a higher fee than they’re willing to pay.

Speaking to Turkish media, Dogan revealed: “Onuachu’s club has endless demands. I will not give the 8-9-10 million Euros that are being talked about. Last year, they wanted 15 million, and we refused. We’ve now offered 5.5-6 million Euros including bonuses, and negotiations continue.”

Meanwhile, Southampton are also open to loaning out Aaron Ramsdale, the highest-paid player in the Championship on £120,000-a-week. With interest from Galatasaray, Monaco, and Rangers, the Saints hope to trim their wage bill and reinvest under manager Will Still.
