Brighton striker Joao Pedro is attracting strong interest from both Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Chelsea currently have Liam Delap and Nicolas Jackson as their centre-forward options, yet that hasn’t stopped them from pursuing Brighton’s Joao Pedro. Newcastle, on the other hand, are short on depth behind Alexander Isak. Although Callum Wilson could extend his contract, his age and injury record make adding another forward a priority.
Of the two clubs, Newcastle arguably need Pedro more — especially if Jackson stays at Stamford Bridge. However, recent links suggest Jackson could move to Arsenal, which could open up space for Pedro at Chelsea.
Joao Pedro, however, appears to favour Chelsea over Newcastle. According to the *Daily Mail*, the Brazilian is leaning towards a move to the Blues despite the Magpies’ need. The report also states that Chelsea already had a £58 million bid rejected, underlining their serious intent.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are close to sealing a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens. Club officials are reportedly very keen to secure his signature this summer.
Pedro’s versatility is a big draw for Chelsea. Though primarily a striker, he can also play on the left or behind another forward. This flexibility makes him an appealing option, especially with doubts around Christopher Nkunku’s future.
Nkunku made an impact in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Benfica in the Club World Cup, but hasn’t secured a consistent starting spot under Enzo Maresca. With Manchester United reportedly interested, a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.
