Ipswich Town and Derby County are both nearing Charlotte FC’s £7.2m asking price for striker Patrick Agyemang, according to the Daily Mail.
Ipswich Town and Derby County are set to renew their Championship rivalry next season, having faced each other 89 times in the past. Ipswich, recently relegated, will be aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League, while Derby look to steer clear of another relegation fight under John Eustace.
Before they meet on the pitch, the two clubs could clash in the transfer market. Both are reportedly close to meeting Charlotte FC’s £7.2m valuation for striker Patrick Agyemang, according to the *Daily Mail*.
However, competition for the 24-year-old forward extends beyond the Championship. Belgian sides Anderlecht and Genk, as well as Spanish clubs Real Oviedo and Espanyol, are also said to be interested in securing his services.
Agyemang, known for his strong physical presence and finishing, has netted 22 goals and five assists in 72 games for Charlotte, along with five goals in 10 appearances for the U.S. national team. While his all-around game still needs work — particularly his passing and defensive play — clubs see him as a high-upside project with potential to grow.
For Ipswich, the £7.2m fee suggests they may view Agyemang as a replacement for Liam Delap. Despite having George Hirst and Ali Al-Hamadi in their ranks, adding another striker wouldn’t be out of the question — especially if Al-Hamadi goes out on loan again.
Derby, though, won’t give up the chase easily, and with several teams circling, a multi-club transfer battle for Agyemang is well underway.
