Brighton striker Evan Ferguson could be set for a summer move, with Serie A giants Roma now reportedly showing strong interest. The 20-year-old Irish international endured a tough 2023/24 season, struggling with form and fitness. A mid-season loan to West Ham United failed to reignite his spark, as he failed to score in eight appearances. Prior to that, he had just one goal in 13 league games for Brighton.
Ferguson has been linked to multiple clubs this summer, including Rangers, Celtic, Everton, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest. Juventus were previously monitoring the situation, but attention has now shifted to Roma. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Roma are exploring Ferguson as an option and are aware of Brighton’s stance, with the club open to a possible deal.
Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler acknowledged Ferguson’s desire for regular game time, stating the club wants to support his development, even if it means a move elsewhere. Hürzeler noted that Ferguson is eager to play — whether at Brighton or another club.
The Seagulls are in a tricky spot. Ferguson has shown glimpses of elite finishing ability, but his fit within Hürzeler’s high-energy, pressing system remains uncertain. With Joao Pedro’s departure, a door could open for Ferguson, but the manager currently favors Danny Welbeck and new signings Georginio Rutter, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Stefanos Tzimas, who arrived for a combined £50 million.
Ferguson is under contract until 2029, giving Brighton leverage. However, if a strong offer of over £30 million arrives — especially one including a sell-on clause — the club may consider selling, particularly if Ferguson is keen to leave. While his recent season was underwhelming due to injury and an unsettled stint at West Ham, Ferguson remains a player of great potential. Whether he gets another chance at Brighton is still up in the air.
