Shock Twist: Real Madrid Plot Move for £21.5m Sunderland Sensation as Summer Transfer Drama Heats Up

Sunderland’s rising star Jobe Bellingham is poised to become one of the hottest names in the upcoming summer transfer window, with several elite European clubs reportedly tracking his progress. According to leading Spanish outlet Marca, Real Madrid have joined the growing list of suitors showing serious interest in the 19-year-old midfielder. Bellingham has enjoyed a standout campaign in the Championship, scoring four goals and providing three assists over 39 league appearances. With Sunderland securing a spot in the play-offs, the youngster has a golden opportunity to help his club fight for a Premier League promotion—one of the highest honours in English football.

The growing buzz around Jobe echoes the trajectory of his older brother, Jude Bellingham, who rose through the ranks at Birmingham City before starring at Borussia Dortmund and ultimately sealing a high-profile move to Real Madrid. Like Jude, Jobe has displayed impressive maturity and versatility in midfield, leading many to believe he could follow a similar path to footballing stardom. His performances have caught the attention of major clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, Chelsea, RB Leipzig, and Dortmund, with Sunderland reportedly valuing him at a minimum of £21.5 million.

Beyond Real Madrid, Manchester United are believed to be planning a bold move to bring both Jobe Bellingham and fellow Sunderland prodigy Chris Rigg to Old Trafford. Manager Ruben Amorim is keen to bolster his squad in multiple areas, but United’s ability to spend is currently limited by Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). As such, the club may need to offload players before making significant purchases. Journalist Graeme Bailey has reported that Amorim sees the teenage pair as central to his rebuilding efforts. However, the competition is fierce, and Sunderland’s own ambitions could further complicate negotiations.

Bailey added that INEOS, United’s ownership group, is seriously considering moves for both Bellingham and Rigg, though Rigg remains undecided despite the strong interest. Borussia Dortmund, who have a proven track record in developing young talent, are also in the mix, especially given their longstanding connection to the players through key scouting personnel. Internally, United are impressed by Jobe’s athleticism and his advanced metrics, which reportedly stand out significantly. Scouts believe he could thrive as an attacking midfielder under Amorim’s system. While United missed out on signing Jude Bellingham in 2020, they now see an opportunity to secure Jobe for a fee potentially under £30 million—making the deal both financially and tactically attractive.
