Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw has left the door open for potential summer moves involving current loan players Mallik Wilks and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu. As the season wraps up with a final home fixture against Peterborough United, both players are set to return to their parent clubs—Sheffield Wednesday and Luton Town, respectively. Speaking about their futures, along with fellow loanee Louie Sibley, Hamshaw told the Rotherham Advertiser that discussions will take place: “I’ll speak to them. They’ll go back to their parent clubs. They’ve done reasonably well. My job is to try to get better loans, to get better players in, to get better young players in.”
Hamshaw further explained that while he’s open to the idea of bringing them back, it’s not guaranteed. If the players become available again and both sides see mutual benefit, then a return could be considered. However, he emphasized that it’s not a priority, saying, “It won’t be something that I’m dead set on.”
Currently positioned 13th in the table, Rotherham United are looking to bounce back after being relegated from the Championship last season alongside Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town. Wilks joined the Millers on loan from Sheffield Wednesday last August to gain more game time. The former Leeds United and Hull City forward has made a solid contribution, scoring 10 goals in 44 appearances—nine of them in league play. His performances have sparked interest abroad, with clubs like Konyaspor, Aris Limassol, and Levski Sofia reportedly keen on signing him permanently, according to Football Insider.
Ruddock Mpanzu, meanwhile, arrived at Rotherham in January to strengthen the midfield. The experienced London-born player has added valuable depth and leadership to the squad. Known for his remarkable rise with Luton Town from non-league football to the Premier League, his future at Kenilworth Road remains uncertain. Whether he returns to Luton or seeks a new challenge is still up in the air, but Rotherham may be among those watching closely.
