Leeds United are reportedly preparing to compete with Everton for the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff this summer, with his current club valuing him at £10m, according to The Sun. Longstaff, who has been a key figure at Newcastle since making his debut in 2018, has accumulated over 200 appearances for the Magpies. However, the 27-year-old has struggled to secure regular first-team football this season, with manager Eddie Howe favoring a midfield trio of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton.
David Prutton, a former United midfielder, shared his thoughts on Longstaff’s potential move to Leeds in an interview with Football League World. He described Longstaff as a solid addition for Leeds, highlighting his extensive experience at the highest level of football. Prutton praised Longstaff’s work ethic and his ability to thrive in a team environment, noting that his understanding of the pressure that comes with playing for a big club like Newcastle would prepare him well for a move to Leeds. While Prutton emphasized the importance of securing the right price and wages for the player, he also pointed out that Longstaff could be an important addition to Leeds’ squad as they look to strengthen ahead of the Premier League season.
Longstaff, a box-to-box midfielder, has just over a year left on his contract at Newcastle. This season, he has made 31 appearances for the club, but with his playing time limited, he may be considering a move. Meanwhile, Leeds are also reportedly showing interest in former Tottenham Hotspur player Eric Dier, who is currently with Bayern Munich. A recent report from TBR Football revealed that Dier’s camp has held discussions with several Premier League clubs, including Leeds, Brighton, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham, and Brentford. Dier, who joined Bayern Munich on loan from Tottenham in 2024, is expected to leave the German club after just one year. However, despite interest from Premier League sides, it appears that Dier is set to reject a return to England and instead move to Ligue 1, where he is reportedly on the verge of agreeing terms with AS Monaco for a two-year contract.
With the summer transfer window approaching, Leeds United are preparing for a busy period of recruitment. Having secured promotion to the Premier League after a second attempt, Daniel Farke’s side will look to strengthen their squad further. Leeds are currently on the brink of winning the Championship title, with a decisive match against Plymouth Argyle scheduled for this weekend.
