Danny Röhl woke up this morning back in his home country of Germany, having concluded a commendable season at the helm of Sheffield Wednesday. Under his guidance, the Owls secured a midtable finish in the Championship, wrapping up their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Watford. The result not only added another point to an impressive away record but also secured 12th place—marking the club’s highest league position since their consecutive play-off appearances in 2016 and 2017.
Immediately after the final whistle, Röhl spoke about his short-term plans. After spending months away from his young family while working in South Yorkshire, he didn’t hesitate to return home. “At 6:30pm I will be sat on an aircraft and at around midnight I will arrive at my home,” he shared. “My kids will be asleep but I will go in their room and say hello.” Röhl looked forward to a rare stretch of downtime, planning to start his morning with a jog around a nearby lake and enjoy days free from match preparation, video analysis, and the constant buzz of his phone — though he admitted turning it off might be easier said than done.
Röhl also reflected on the personal sacrifices that come with the job. Over the past 18 to 19 months, he has seen his two sons only a handful of times, making the separation especially difficult. Despite their limited time together, his family — including the boys — have embraced Sheffield Wednesday wholeheartedly. With speculation still swirling about his long-term future at the club, Röhl’s current priority is crystal clear: soaking in every moment of the next six weeks with his family. “We should use this time, every single minute,” he emphasized.
