Leeds United is gearing up for a major squad overhaul ahead of their Premier League return. With the summer transfer window set to open next month, manager Daniel Farke is expected to receive substantial financial backing to strengthen the squad. To survive and thrive in the Premier League, Leeds will need to bolster their team in multiple areas. Along with an influx of new players, there will likely be some departures as the club seeks to balance its finances while adhering to profitability and sustainability regulations. The gap in quality between the Premier League and the Championship has widened in recent years, as evidenced by the last six promoted clubs, all of whom were relegated straight back down. Given this, Leeds will need to be strategic in the transfer market and make wise acquisitions, particularly focusing on players who could come from the three relegated Championship clubs: Luton Town, Plymouth Argyle, and Cardiff City.
One potential target is Thomas Kaminski, the 32-year-old goalkeeper from Luton Town. Kaminski, who joined from Blackburn in 2023, was named Luton’s Player of the Season and has shown he still has plenty of quality left in him. With Leeds’ goalkeeping situation uncertain—Illan Meslier’s future remains in the air after several costly errors, and Karl Darlow still faces criticism despite playing a key role in their promotion—Kaminski could be a solid addition to provide depth and competition.
At centre-back, Leeds might consider Maksym Talovierov from Plymouth Argyle. The 25-year-old Ukrainian defender, who became Plymouth’s record signing in January, made a strong impact in his first 11 appearances before injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. Talovierov’s height, physicality, and technical ability make him a promising option, especially given Leeds’ struggles with injuries to key defenders like Pascal Struijk and Max Wober in recent years.
In midfield, Thelo Aasgaard from Luton Town could be another valuable addition. The Norwegian midfielder, who joined Luton from Wigan for around £3 million in January, has proven to be a key figure in their survival bid. Known for his intelligence, spatial awareness, and athleticism, Aasgaard could add depth to Leeds’ midfield and bring a creative spark. His potential for growth is also evident, with his former manager Matt Bloomfield praising his ability to make the step up to a higher level.
Leeds may also look to Plymouth Argyle for attacking reinforcements in Mustapha Bundu. The 28-year-old forward, out of contract this summer, scored 11 goals and provided seven assists in the 2024/25 season. His physicality and sharpness in front of goal would make him an intriguing option for Leeds, and his performances have already attracted attention from other clubs.
Finally, Cardiff City’s 6ft 5in striker Yousef Salech could be a target for Leeds. After joining from Swedish club Sirius in January, Salech scored nine goals in 22 appearances and displayed impressive movement off the ball. With his raw talent and potential to develop further, Salech could be a strong addition to Leeds’ attacking options as they aim to strengthen for the Premier League.
These players from the relegated clubs could provide Leeds with the depth and quality needed to ensure a successful campaign in the Premier League next season.
