Newcastle United have secured a fresh agreement with one of Eddie Howe’s top signings.
Dan Burn is set to sign a new contract at Newcastle United, capping off what has been a dream season for the Blyth-born defender.
Since joining his boyhood club from Brighton for £13 million in January 2022, Burn has become a key figure under Eddie Howe. Comfortable at both centre-back and left-back, he’s established himself as a regular starter and a respected member of the club’s leadership group.
His standout moments include scoring against PSG in the Champions League and netting a crucial header against Liverpool that helped secure the Carabao Cup – ending Newcastle’s 70-year domestic trophy drought. The following day, he earned a call-up to the England squad, eventually becoming a regular under Thomas Tuchel.
Now 33, Burn is set to extend his stay at St James’ Park, with his current deal due to expire in 2026. According to reports, new terms have already been agreed.
Back in October, Burn spoke about his desire to finish his career at Newcastle and hinted at future roles in coaching or media. He emphasized his passion to keep playing and contributing, stating that he doesn’t want to be just a squad player.
Burn has already begun working on coaching badges and media appearances, preparing for life after football while staying committed to the club.
Eddie Howe, reflecting on Burn’s impact, described him as one of his best-ever signings. He praised Burn’s leadership, consistency, and influence, calling him “a tower of strength” and vital to Newcastle’s progress. From his humble beginnings at Darlington to 148 appearances for the Magpies, Burn’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
