Stoke City have signed one player and released nine in Mark Robins’ first summer at the club.
Stoke City and their Championship rivals will pause transfer activity tomorrow as the summer window temporarily closes.
The window opened on June 1 but shuts tonight, with Stoke being one of the few clubs to make a signing—Sorba Thomas from Huddersfield Town. The rest of the league remains quiet, as expected, with most players and managers on break before pre-season begins.
Why are there two transfer windows this summer?
The EFL introduced an early June window (June 1-10) to align with the Premier League’s mini-window before the Club World Cup. Clubs can sign players specifically for the tournament, including short-term deals for free agents. The EFL stated this adjustment was necessary due to the 89-day limit on transfer windows.
Key Dates:
Closes tonight (June 10) at 7pm.
Reopens June 16 after a six-day pause.
Final deadline: September 1 at 7pm.
Championship Moves So Far:
Birmingham: Signed Phil Neumann (Hannover 96).
Hull: Made Gustavo Puerta’s loan permanent (£3m).
Norwich: Signed Jacob Wright (Man City) and Dan Grimshaw (Plymouth).
Preston: Added four free agents, including ex-Stoke players Iversen and Thompson.
Southampton: Bought Joshua Quarshie (£3.5m, Hoffenheim).
Swansea: Signed Zeidane Inoussa, Bobby Wales, and Ricardo Santos.
Watford: Picked up Nathan Baxter, Marc Bola, and Hector Kyprianou on frees.
Activity has been limited, with more movement expected when the window fully reopens.
