Rumors indicate wide receiver DJ Moore and tight end Cole Kmet might be out of favor with head coach Ben Johnson.
The Chicago Bears have officially entered a new chapter under head coach Ben Johnson, who’s already making his presence known during offseason practices and media appearances. But behind the scenes, new rumors suggest that two key offensive players—DJ Moore and Cole Kmet—may not be in Johnson’s good graces early on.
Reports from Jordan Sigler of *Chi City Sports* claim that both Moore and Kmet were reprimanded during early summer practices. DJ Moore admitted Johnson addressed his body language during certain plays, while Kmet reportedly got an earful for lining up incorrectly during team drills. These “rude awakenings” during OTAs could be early signs of Johnson setting a new tone and standard for the team.
While such coaching moments are typically routine during the offseason, what adds intrigue is the Bears’ recent draft decisions. Despite having DJ Moore and rookie standout Rome Odunze at wide receiver, and Kmet already in place at tight end, the Bears used their top two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft on those very same positions—selecting tight end Colston Loveland at No. 10 and wide receiver Luther Burden III at No. 39.
There’s no direct indication from Johnson that he’s looking to move on from Moore or Kmet. Still, the early tension in practice and surprising draft choices have fueled speculation about their long-term roles in his system. Whether this is just normal growing pains under a new head coach or something more serious, only time will tell how Moore and Kmet fit into the future of Johnson’s Chicago Bears.
