Stoke City’s away kit sells out fast as Mark Stein headlines launch event.

Zigzag stripes, bucket hats, and Mark Stein – Stoke City throw it back to 1992 in style.

Stoke City’s new away kit launch has been a massive hit, with hundreds of fans lining up to snap it up as soon as it went on sale.

The kit, a two-tone purple zig-zag design, pays homage to the club’s iconic 1992/93 title-winning shirt. It features the same Stoke-on-Trent city crest badge that was used back then, now revived to celebrate 100 years since the club became Stoke City Football Club.

Club legend Mark Stein, a star of the 1992/93 campaign, returned to the bet365 Stadium for the launch event, signing autographs and taking photos with supporters. The demand was so high that fans queued down the road, and even the club’s online store saw heavy traffic a day earlier.

Supporters who turned up in the new Macron-made shirt were given free entry into a special ‘Spirit of 92’ event in the Boothen Quarter—complete with a free pint, 90s DJ sets, and brisk trade in purple bucket hats. The club shop continues to serve fans from 10am to 4pm today.

This overwhelming response might influence the club’s ongoing discussions about a potential badge redesign, especially given that fan research showed a strong preference for the 1980s version used on this kit.

Now, fans will hope that Mark Robins and Jon Walters can unearth a modern-day Mark Stein to help this shirt become just as memorable over the next 33 years.

The club is using their old club badge on this new away shirt to commemorate 100 years of being known as Stoke City.

Mark Robins would love a 2025 version of Mark Stein to wear the shirt inspired by the one he wore while at Stoke City.
