West Ham could field two European champions in their new starting XI if transfer rumours are true.

West Ham’s revamped starting XI next season could feature two newly crowned European champions, based on recent transfer rumours.

Graham Potter has been clear about his intention to overhaul West Ham’s squad. However, despite the extended summer window, the Hammers have yet to make a single signing. Potter had hoped to integrate new faces during pre-season, but with training set to resume soon, no arrivals appear imminent.

The club previously cited financial restrictions due to Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as the reason for their transfer inactivity. While sales are needed to generate funds, no major exits have materialized. But two recent developments have shifted the narrative.

First, West Ham attributed their lack of signings to many of their targets being involved in the Under-21 European Championship. Second, it was revealed that the club’s owners can inject up to £90 million into transfers — and are willing to do so “if needed.” Now that the tournament has concluded, fans are expecting action, not excuses.

Among the players linked are two newly crowned European champions. The Hammers have made an enquiry for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who impressed at the U21 Euros and is reportedly open to leaving due to limited minutes at Anfield. With midfield a key priority for Potter, Elliott could be an ideal replacement for the potentially outgoing Lucas Paquetá.

Another U21 star, Omari Hutchinson, has also caught West Ham’s eye. The Ipswich attacker — who also scored in the final — is reportedly open to a move, and could fill the void left by Mohammed Kudus, who is also expected to be sold.

If the club follows through, Elliott and Hutchinson could feature in a new-look West Ham XI next season — both fresh off their European triumph. Manchester City’s James McAtee, who captained England U21s to glory, is another name consistently linked with the club.

Now, it’s up to the West Ham board to back Potter and turn these promising links into signings.
