Newcastle United look set to miss out on Joao Pedro, with the Brazilian forward heading to Premier League rivals Chelsea despite their long-term interest.
Newcastle United have suffered a major setback in the transfer market after missing out on Joao Pedro. Despite strong interest and multiple approaches, the Brazilian has chosen Chelsea over the Magpies, with the Blues agreeing a deal worth over £50 million. This is a tough blow for Newcastle, who haven’t made a major addition to their starting XI in nearly two years. Fans now face a longer wait for new arrivals as Pedro prepares to join Chelsea after completing a medical in Brazil.
The Athletic has revealed a key detail that shows Newcastle never really had a chance. Even if they matched the offer, Pedro had eyes only for Chelsea. It’s not the first time Newcastle have lost out to the Blues either—Liam Delap also snubbed a move to Tyneside in favour of West London. Now, Eddie Howe and his recruitment team are scrambling for alternatives, which ideally should have been identified weeks ago.
It’s a disappointing twist for Newcastle, especially after Pedro previously expressed frustration over a failed move to the club in 2022. Ironically, the Magpies might have offered him more playing time, whereas Chelsea have a crowded forward line.
With uncertainty over his role at Stamford Bridge, Newcastle may revisit their interest in Pedro if things don’t work out for him in the capital.
