As Newcastle target Anthony Elanga, an alternative option has decided his future.
Anthony Elanga remains Newcastle United’s primary transfer target, but he’s not the only winger on Eddie Howe’s radar. With uncertainty surrounding Elanga’s move to St James’ Park, the Magpies have been exploring other options.
One of those options, Mohammed Kudus, is attracting attention from both Tottenham and Chelsea, making a move to Newcastle seem unlikely. Another name on their shortlist was Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who impressed last season with 13 goals and seven assists across all competitions. Bournemouth, valuing him at £70 million, always made a deal with Newcastle look difficult.
Now, Semenyo has ended any speculation by signing a new contract with Bournemouth, keeping him at the club until 2030. Speaking after the official announcement, he expressed his happiness and commitment to staying, praising the club, fans, and staff. His comments strongly suggest he’s not going anywhere this summer.
For Newcastle, this officially rules Semenyo out of their plans. Despite being an appealing option due to his versatility and work rate, his price tag was always going to be a major obstacle. At £70 million, he would’ve become Newcastle’s most expensive player ever, surpassing the £63 million spent on Alexander Isak.
With Elanga available for less and being a younger option, he represents better value. Meanwhile, Bournemouth have no need to sell, especially after already cashing in on other key players and remaining financially secure.
As Semenyo stays put, Newcastle’s focus shifts back to securing a deal for Elanga.
