Stoke City eye loan deal for Chelsea defender.

Ishe Samuels-Smith is regarded as one of Chelsea’s most promising young talents.

Ishe Samuels-Smith could head out on loan from Chelsea this season.

Stoke City are reportedly among four clubs in contention to sign Chelsea’s highly-rated left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith on loan. The 19-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Everton in 2023, has yet to make his senior debut but recently signed a six-year contract—an indication of how highly he is valued by the club.

According to football.london, Samuels-Smith is considered “one of the most impressive young players” at Chelsea. Known for his tall frame and composed presence, he’s praised for his elegance on the ball, strong defensive abilities in one-on-one situations, and his attacking contributions from full-back.

Chelsea are now exploring loan options to aid the England under-19 international’s development by giving him a taste of senior football. Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, and Rangers have all reportedly held talks with Chelsea about a possible move.

The Blues are expected to discuss loan preferences with Samuels-Smith next week, with a decision on his 2025/26 destination likely to be made within a fortnight.

Stoke currently have Eric Bocat at left-back and recently released Enda Stevens, Lynden Gooch, and Jordan Thompson—two of whom had previously filled in at that position. With youngsters Josh Bickerton and Laurence Giani emerging, Stoke will need to carefully assess what they’re looking for in a new left-back before finalizing any deal.
