The Town squad reported back to Playford Road this morning to begin pre-season training.
Ipswich Town players have returned to Playford Road for the start of pre-season training ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, which begins with an away fixture at newly promoted Birmingham City on Friday, 8th August. This marks a quick turnaround, with the Premier League season only wrapping up on 25th May.
Among the players pictured arriving was Chieo Ogbene, who missed most of last season due to a ruptured Achilles suffered in October. Manager Kieran McKenna had expressed optimism in May that Ogbene and other long-term absentees would be fit in time for pre-season.
McKenna gave updates on several players: Jaden Philogene (MCL), Aro Muric (shoulder), and Harry Clarke (plantaris surgery) are expected to be ready, while Wes Burns (ACL) may need more time.
Conor Townsend also confirmed he should be fit for the start of pre-season after a hamstring injury sidelined him at the end of last season.
Sammie Szmodics pulled out of Ireland’s June matches due to a minor ankle flare-up, but the decision was precautionary. Meanwhile, players who featured in international games last month have been granted extra time off before rejoining the squad.
Town will train locally before heading to Austria for a pre-season camp, which will include a friendly against Blau-Weiß Linz on Saturday, 19th July.
