Newcastle United close in on double signing after agreeing personal terms.

Newcastle United are pursuing two ongoing transfer deals.

Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Nottingham Forest winger **Anthony Elanga**, with talks now progressing after an improved £55 million bid. Although Forest initially insisted Elanga was not for sale and rejected a £45 million offer, the Magpies have returned with a higher bid, and an agreement now appears close.

Elanga has long been a target for Newcastle. The club first showed interest last summer, attempting to include him in the deal that sent Elliot Anderson to Forest, but were turned down. They made another approach on deadline day in January, but nothing materialised. With Miguel Almiron leaving in January, Elanga remains one of manager Eddie Howe’s top targets to fill the right-wing position.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Newcastle’s renewed bid and reported that personal terms with Elanga are nearly finalised. Elanga is said to be open to the move, motivated by the opportunity to work under Howe and potentially play in the Champions League. His friendships with current Newcastle players like Alexander Isak, Emil Krafth, and Will Osula also add appeal to the transfer.

At the same time, Newcastle are also finalising a deal for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. Romano reported that personal terms have been agreed, and negotiations with Burnley are nearly complete, with only minor details left to resolve.

If completed, Elanga’s move—valued between £55m and £60m—would make him Newcastle’s second most expensive signing, after Alexander Isak. The 23-year-old Swedish international has contributed 11 goals and 21 assists since joining Forest from Manchester United for £15m. He played a crucial role in Forest’s impressive season, which included a 7th-place Premier League finish and a Europa Conference League spot.

While some have questioned the high price tag, Elanga’s speed, Premier League experience, and age make him a valuable long-term prospect. Under Eddie Howe, known for player development, the winger could reach even greater heights at St. James’ Park.
