Edu may have found Forest’s Elanga replacement — a former Arsenal target.

Edu Gaspar’s first job at Nottingham Forest is to find Anthony Elanga’s replacement — and he might’ve already identified the ideal candidate during his time at Arsenal.

Edu’s appointment as Nottingham Forest’s Global Head of Football has been confirmed after months of speculation. He joins the club at a key time, with Anthony Elanga on the verge of joining Newcastle United. With that in mind, Edu must quickly get involved in recruitment to help find a strong replacement.

His experience at Arsenal means he’s already familiar with Premier League-level talent — including a potential Elanga successor. One standout name is Johan Bakayoko of PSV, a player Edu previously tried to bring to Arsenal. Reports from June 2024 confirmed Arsenal’s interest, though Bukayo Saka’s presence blocked a potential move.

That same obstacle doesn’t exist at Forest, and Elanga’s departure opens the door. Now would be the perfect time to act. PSV are willing to sell Bakayoko due to his contract expiring next year, with a reported asking price of just €20m (£17m).

With Nuno Espírito Santo seeking two wingers this summer, Bakayoko’s affordability and quality make him an ideal target — but Forest must move quickly to beat other interested clubs.
