Ipswich Town are poised to land Reims defender Cedric Kipre on an initial loan, per L’Équipe.
Ipswich Town are preparing for a summer of changes following their relegation from the Premier League. While the club hopes to retain key players, departures are expected. Their focus now is on assembling a squad strong enough to push for promotion in the Championship, blending their core group with fresh additions.
According to French outlet *L’Équipe*, Ipswich are close to securing the signing of Reims defender Cedric Kipre on a season-long loan. The deal includes a €4.5m mandatory buy clause if Ipswich achieve immediate promotion back to the top flight.
Kipre played 28 Ligue 1 matches last season and previously gained significant experience in the Championship with West Brom, Wigan Athletic, and Cardiff City. Despite Reims’ relegation, he impressed with a solid 7.0 average match rating, according to FOTMob.
His form caught the attention of several clubs, including newly promoted Sunderland, but Ipswich appear to have won the race. This signing is viewed as a strong statement of intent for their promotion ambitions.
Kipre also has links with current Ipswich players, having previously played alongside Conor Townsend, Dara O’Shea, and new goalkeeper David Button at West Brom. That familiarity could help him settle quickly and make an immediate impact at Portman Road.
