Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin endured a frustrating evening at Elland Road as he squandered several clear-cut opportunities to score. His missed chances proved costly, contributing to Leeds’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in a match many believe they should have won based on their overall performance.
Tottenham left Elland Road relieved, clinging on to a narrow victory despite being second best for large spells of the game. Daniel Farke’s side dominated possession and created the better chances, while the visitors struggled to contain Leeds’ attacking intensity. When the final whistle blew, the relief on the Spurs players’ faces was evident—they had survived a late Leeds onslaught to escape with all three points.
Leeds, however, only had themselves to blame. The Whites’ wastefulness in front of goal, particularly from Calvert-Lewin, was decisive. Reflecting on the defeat, the striker admitted his disappointment and accepted responsibility for not converting his chances.
“I should have taken my chances,” Calvert-Lewin confessed after the game, acknowledging that Leeds deserved more from the contest. “We got into dangerous positions and didn’t make them count. It wasn’t my day today, but that’s the life of a striker—you think about the next one.”
Despite the setback, Calvert-Lewin remains optimistic. He praised the Elland Road faithful for their passion and energy, crediting the fans for helping him settle quickly since his arrival. “It’s disappointing to lose at home, especially knowing our strong record here,” he said. “But Elland Road is still our fortress, and the atmosphere pushes us to give everything. I’m loving it here and want to make the fans proud as the season goes on.”
Manager Daniel Farke echoed his striker’s sentiments, admitting frustration at his team’s lack of clinical edge but also expressing pride in their overall display. “We have to take our chances,” Farke told reporters. “When the opposition goalkeeper is the man of the match, it tells you everything. But we were the better side against one of the league’s top teams, and that’s encouraging. I’m proud of how far we’ve come.
