There’s little doubt about who will be the first pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Cam Ward is all but locked in as the Tennessee Titans’ choice at No. 1 overall.
But what about the rest of the Miami Hurricanes set to enter the draft on April 24 in Green Bay? Which of Ward’s former teammates could be the next Hurricane off the board?
There are several Canes with draft potential, but four stand out as the most likely candidates to follow Ward. Here they are, ranked from least to most likely.
4) DE Tyler Baron
Baron may be more of a mid-round pick based on projections, but his size and power give him upside. He could attract teams looking for a strong early-down edge rusher. While not expected to go before Round 4, the draft often throws curveballs.
3) RB Damien Martinez
Martinez is a physical, downhill runner with surprising speed for his frame. He made a solid impression at the Combine and Senior Bowl. However, this year’s running back class is extremely deep, which might push him down the board despite his potential.
2) WR Xavier Restrepo
Restrepo is a polished route runner and productive receiver, likely to go on Day 2. His slow 40-yard dash (4.80) could hurt his stock, but his game speed and football IQ stand out on tape. He’s a fringe second-rounder who might slip to the third like Kam Kinchens did last year.
1) TE Elijah Arroyo
After a breakout season and dominant Senior Bowl, Arroyo has emerged as one of the draft’s top tight ends. He could be the third TE selected, behind likely first-rounders Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland. Arroyo might even go as early as the second round thanks to his pass-catching prowess.
