The New York Giants are fast approaching a pivotal moment, holding the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While the team has already parted ways with Daniel Jones and brought in seasoned veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to add experience and depth at quarterback, the long-term future at the position remains uncertain. With such a high draft pick, the Giants have a prime opportunity to select a potential franchise quarterback—someone who could transform their offense for years to come.

However, CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has proposed an intriguing alternative: rather than staying put at No. 3, the Giants could consider trading down. The logic behind this strategy is rooted in roster needs. New York is in dire need of both a cornerstone offensive lineman and a young quarterback to develop, but with just one top-three pick, they can’t address both needs simultaneously. A slight trade down could still allow them to secure a top-tier tackle while gaining additional draft capital—possibly the most balanced path forward.

But there’s a wildcard: Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Giants are scheduled to host Sanders for a private workout on Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. With both the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns expected to make their picks at No. 1 and No. 2 before New York goes on the clock, there’s a scenario in which Sanders could still be available when it’s the Giants’ turn. If that happens, and New York hasn’t already traded down, the pressure to make a franchise-altering decision in real time could be intense. The private workout could serve as one final evaluation in what’s shaping up to be a suspenseful and potentially defining moment for the Giants’ future.
