After halftime, Geelong showed no signs of slowing down. Determined to keep the Hawks at bay, they continued their charge with four more goals in the third quarter. By three-quarter time, the lead had blown out to 42 points, leaving Hawthorn with a mountain too steep to climb.
The final term saw Geelong put the result beyond doubt, adding three more majors to cap off a commanding 51-point victory. Sam De Koning made a significant impact in the ruck, showcasing his all-round ability with 20 disposals, 15 hit-outs, and two goals. Jeremy Cameron was awarded the maximum three Brownlow votes for his standout performance, collecting 19 disposals and slotting four goals — tying for the game-high tally. Tom Stewart contributed strongly with 26 disposals, while Brad Close also impressed, matching Cameron’s four-goal haul.
