Steve Sarkisian enters his fifth season at Texas with major expectations, following two straight College Football Playoff semifinal appearances. This year marks the official start of the Arch Manning era, as the quarterback takes over full-time. Sarkisian notes Manning’s mix of humility and confidence has earned the locker room’s trust, highlighted by playful moments like a wink after a good throw in practice.

Texas heads into its second SEC season with a talented, experienced roster and playoff aspirations. Sarkisian believes the defense is strong enough to ease pressure on Manning, stating, “I don’t think Arch is ever going to have to go into a game thinking we have to outscore ‘em.”

On Manning’s growth, Sarkisian highlighted the leadership and natural presence Arch brings, saying teammates gravitate toward him for who he is, not just his last name. Sarkisian also praised the young QB’s maturity, noting how last season’s exposure—including tough moments like interceptions and missed blitz pickups—will help him handle pressure this fall.

While public expectations may lack patience, Sarkisian emphasizes that within the program, Manning will receive the support and room to grow.

Sarkisian also touched on the return of veteran DB coach Duane Akina, calling his energy and experience “infectious.” Texas’ secondary may be the team’s strongest unit, with depth and talent across the board.

The offensive line, while featuring some new faces, brings promise thanks to early experience and development. At running back, a healthy rotation led by returners and young talent is expected to bolster the offense. Sarkisian highlighted receiver continuity too but noted tight end remains a question mark.

Defensively, Sarkisian praised the program’s growth and player development. He believes Texas now has enough talent to win without relying solely on high-scoring games.

Reflecting on his journey, Sarkisian emphasized his commitment to long-term success at Texas. Navigating challenges like the pandemic, NIL, realignment, and playoff expansion, Sarkisian says the program has adapted with a forward-thinking mindset. He believes building through high school recruiting while supplementing with transfers has created a sustainable model.

Sarkisian’s ultimate goal remains a national title, but he values the consistency and foundation established over the past four years. At 51, he hopes to finish his career in Austin, building a legacy rooted in stability and championship standards.
