Russ outmaneuvered Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers tried to stay composed during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, but if you listen closely, you can sense the regret. There’s a noticeable shift when he talks about the New York Giants moving on without him, and it’s clear they aren’t looking back.
Rodgers spoke about football minds, with Giants head coach Brian Daboll’s name coming up first. It wasn’t a casual mention—it felt like admiration, maybe even envy and remorse. He said, “I did talk to Brian Daboll, had good conversation with him. I think he’s a lot of fun to talk to and has a beautiful football mind.” That doesn’t sound like someone who was completely out on the Giants. It sounds more like a guy who realized he missed his chance, especially with Russell Wilson stepping into that role.
Rodgers tried to frame the situation as though he was in control the whole time, saying he was weighing options and handling things off the field. But as he alluded to personal matters, the reality is that football waits for no one. The Giants didn’t hesitate. Joe Schoen quickly secured quarterbacks like Tommy DeVito, Jameis Winston, and, ultimately, Russell Wilson. This signaled the end of the Rodgers saga, not just for him, but for the distraction he brings.
Rodgers could have been a good fit, but his hesitation led to him losing out. The Giants moved on, bringing in Wilson and eyeing other quarterbacks for the future. New York doesn’t wait, and Rodgers missed his shot. Though he may not admit it, his admiration for Daboll tells the story. The Giants are fine without him.
